According to the relevant department namely Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration, in order to pass the driver’s test successfully, you must always be able to identify a car’s lights as well and how to use them in best way. This mandate apparently ensures that drivers will always use their car lights correctly while travelling on the road. But unfortunately, many of the drivers “forget” these types of skills once they have taken the test passed by the department. Not only does this put their own lives in danger, but the lives of the fellow motorists as well in dangers.

A car has various lights their specific functions either to help the driver for their own vehicle or to signal to other following drivers or front going drivers. When the driver used improperly, or not at all very well, accidents can happen. Therefore, it is particularly very important for the drivers to be able to recognize the function of different lamps and know when to use them for smooth and safe travelling.

Following are some Types of lights on a car:

  • Headlights: High beam or low beam
  • Daytime running lights (DRLs): Bright front lights, automatically activated
  • Sidelights: Dim lights located in the headlamp units
  • Rear fog lights: A single or double red light
  • Front fog lights: Small white lights, low set in the bumper area

Headlights:

Best Usage of Car Lights

There are almost two basic types of headlights which are using by the car manufacturers, one is called low beam and second is called high beam. These lights always allow the driver to see their roadway when there is darkness on the road, along with also signaling to other motorists that a car is present or running on the road. Low beams provide a light distribution to provide a reasonable and adequate forward and lateral brightness without blinding other users on the road with extreme brightness. High beams provide an intense, very center weighted and focused distribution of light with no control of brightness and should only be used when there are no visible cars in front of your car (coming or going) on the road.
